Located in the north of Africa and the Arab Maghreb, Tunisia is opened to the Mediterranean Sea.

With an extend over an area of 163 610 Km², it is composed of 24 governorates which are Ariana, Beja, Ben Arous, Bizerte, El Kef, Gabès, Gafsa, Jendouba, Kairouan, Kasserine, Kebili, Mahdia, Manouba, Médenine, Monastir, Nabeul, Sfax, Sidi Bou Zid, Siliana, Sousse, Tataouine, Tozeur, Tunis, Zaghouan.

The Tunisian economy is also largely oriented toward services, which account 40 % of GDP, the ICT (Information and Communication), which are in development and the tourism Industry.

The agriculture: is a key sector of the tunisian economy and the amelioration of its production in these last years has permitted the country to reach a level of a sufficient alimentary security.The biological sector is also in booming, Tunisia is the second most performing country in this industry. The agriculture insures nearly 11% of GDP and employs approximately 25% of the workforce.

Toursim: represents 6,5 % of GDP and provides nearly 340000 jobs, even 11,5% of the active population. In 2009, its revenue has reached over 3.21 billion dinars, by an increase of nearly 2%.

Transport: having a contribution of nearly 7% of GDP, this sector is also important in the economy of the country. This sector is changing to modern and less polluted infrastructures, and its capacity of employment is estimated nearly to 120 thousand jobs, i . e 4 % f active population.

Industry: the sector represents more than 20% of GDP , and employs nearly 20,5% of active population.Its export earnings is estimated at nearly 2 billion dinars, they can realize an increasing of 20%.

Services : is a promising sector by excellence. The share of this sector in GDP growth has been evaluated at nearly of 6.3% with 8.4 of growth in market services. These exportations have reached a value of 6 291 MTD or 24.48% of the total exportations against evaluated importations at a value of 3 592 MTD or 13.46% of the total importations. The coverage rate of the sector is about 175.14%. it also represents 67.88% of all employment.

Telecomunications: contribute to GDP with a growth of 10% with a growth of 17,8% the ICT sector is very dynamic in Tunisia. We have some 8,7 million mobile phone subscribers (82,7% of the population) , nearly 3 million connected to the internet ( more than 200.000 having access to ADSL), 6,467 tunisian sites , more than 203 call centers ( oriented to the exportation). In addition, the sector employs more than 0.5 of active population.

the non manufacturing industries: are representing 17% of GDP. The manufactured industries and mainly the textile and food totalize 20% of GDP, these last are relatively hampered by the Asiatic competition.

the local economy: is largely oriented to services which account over 40% of GDP , from which the ICT ( Information and Communication Technologies) which are in full development together with the industry of tourism.

The three mainly partners of Tunisia in importation and exportation are the European Union, Libya, Russia and China. France remains the first supplier of Tunisia despite a decline of two points (19.4% in 2010 against 21.5% in 2009).

The main exported goods by Tunisia are the textile and copper, the mechanical and electrical products, food- processing industry and the energetic products.

The country imports raw materials and semi-finished products, the capital goods, consumer goods ( out of alimentation) and the financial services and of insurances.
